10 Ways to Find New Post Ideas for Your Blog

Let’s talk about how to find new blog post ideas for a blog. We’ve all been there. One minute we’re overflowing with ideas to write about, and the next minute, there’s none! You can’t think of a single solid post idea and time is running out. This has happened to me in the past, usually after a few months of hard work. What I realized is that there was a treasure trove of great content ideas just under my nose that I had missed all along! Here are several awesome ways to find new post ideas for your blog.

Google Analytics

Your website analytics are a treasure trove of information that you can use to grow your blogging business as part of your content strategy. The key is to find what your current readers are searching for on your website.

Using the parameter /?s= you can see what your readers are searching for. That should give you plenty of ideas for new blog posts that your readers will love.

Google Suggestions

Google is one of the best ways to find content for your blog. Have a topic in mind? Google it, but don’t hit enter.

Start by visiting google.com. Type in a keyword and look at the drop-down of suggestions that appears. These are called Google suggestions. Google aggregates the most popular searches to help people find what they’re looking for faster. You can assume that the suggestions that they give you are very popular search terms which will make for great blog posts.

People also ask

Another great way to find blog post content ideas is to use the “People also ask” section of Google search results. This section typically appears after the first three search results of a term in Google. A list of questions appears that Google feels are relevant to the search term. I have found a ton of great new blog post ideas by looking through this section.

Google’s Related Searches

At the very bottom of Google search results are a list of around 8 related searches. These are typically related keywords that many people also search for. Sometimes they just add an adjective to a term or they specify a particular area of that topic. Either way I found dozens of great ideas by looking at this section at the bottom of the search results page.

Trends

Google Trends is a very popular tool among bloggers. Google has a ton of data and what they do on the Trends page is they aggregate millions of topic searches over time. You can see upcoming topics that have trended lately and you can get ideas for different variations of a particular subject. It tends to favor more temporary news article topics but if you dive in deeper you can unearth some good ideas.

Quora

I started using Quora pretty recently and I wish I had started sooner! Quora is a place where anyone can ask a question on pretty much any topic on Earth. What’s really cool about it is that the people on Quora tend to be very passionate about the subject matter that they’re inquiring about. You can find incredibly niche ideas that many people haven’t heard of before by looking through Quora.

Pinterest

Pinterest is a great place to find new post ideas. You can look through the boards of influencers in your niche and discover different pins. Pinterest is also a search engine of course and so when you search for any topic they give you a list of related terms near the top. I’ve found it to be a great source of ideas and blog post inspiration.

Competitors

This one may be a little controversial but looking at what your competitors are writing about is a great way to get new ideas. Many bloggers have a popular posts widget on the sidebar or in the footer and this is where you can see the articles they’re posting which are getting a lot of traffic. I found a ton of ideas this way. Of course, I never plagiarize the topic or copy it completely, but it’s a great starting place for new content brainstorming.

BuzzSumo

Buzzsumo is a tool to see what’s trending on social media. You can search for topics and see what posts are getting shared the most, which topics are getting the most engagement, and discover blogs that are influencers in a particular niche.

Magazines

Lastly, a good old-fashioned way to come up with new post ideas is to look through magazines. On my home decor blog, I came up with a really great post idea by reading a magazine that had written about a particular marble stone. No one else was writing about it and my post ranked for this term very quickly. Doing a deep dive into a niche will always present you with tons of ideas with little competition.

I hope this post helped you learn a few new ways to come up with new blog post ideas!
