My Blogs

April 18, 2024 – In lieu of publishing monthly income reports like I used to, I thought it might be fun to share my blog’s estimated income, posts, and traffic progress on a static page, updating it as the year progresses. You won’t get the in-depth insights until the end of the year (see my latest blog income report), but you can keep up with me as often as you’d like!

This is also a great way for new visitors to familiarize themselves with my blogs and where my experience comes from. While I’m certainly not a blogging expert, Whoops, I had imposter syndrome for a moment there. Let’s try that again. I am a blogging expert and I enjoy sharing what I’ve learned in my full-time blogging journey!

If you are interested in creating a side income stream for yourself, please read through my free blogging course available on this website.

Note that I’ve never paid for links before, nor do I accept guest posts of any kind.

Home Decor Blog Income

  • Words: 445,000
  • Average Monthly Traffic: 100,000 pageviews
  • Average Monthly Income: $5,000
  • Domain: Fresh

This is my primary money-making blog. Back in 2014, I gave up after 8 or 10 posts. I didn’t really start working on this blog seriously until the fall of 2016. Two years after that, I quit my job to run the blog full-time and launch into new verticals.

I originally drove traffic to this site through Pinterest, but as my domain aged, I started receiving more and more traffic from Google without really trying. Then a series of algorithm updates tanked my traffic, so it’s back to Pinterest and building. my email list. My most popular pins get pinned to group boards on auto-pilot through Tailwind.

Here is my current monthly income from this blog:

Travel Blog Income

  • Content: Original photos

I started my travel blog when I had the crazy idea of becoming a digital nomad. I had just gotten a remote job and began traveling throughout Europe. This blog was a fun side project to document my travels and help others heading to the same destinations, but since I started to slow down from traveling in 2019, I’ve focused on monetizing it.

I wrote traffic-driving posts instead of personal updates which bumped up my pageviews and got the blog accepted into Mediavine in the spring of 2019.

Like most travel blogs, this site was hit hard in 2020. To give you a comparison, in July 2019, the site had a high of 30,000 pageviews. For the month of July 2020, I got only 14,000 pageviews to this site.

I usually see a slight bump in traffic at the beginning of the year on this blog as lots of people make New Year’s resolutions to “travel more.” Despite the pandemic, I do think that people are slowly starting to travel again, so I haven’t given up on this site at all.

Fashion & Style Blogs Income

  • Average Monthly Income: $1,200
  • Content: Original photos

I have two fashion blogs that are both monetized with the same affiliate network so I will combine their income here. I started these blogs in 2018 and 2019 and launched with 7 posts each. The plan was to let the blogs sit and get to know Google before I started publishing content regularly. One is currently monetized heavily with ads, while the other is monetize heavily with affiliate marketing.

The reason why the income for this blog is so high compared to the number of posts is that I stumbled upon a niche within the fashion topic that no one else was writing about. It was purely by chance, and I wish I could find more niches like this!

Blogging Blog Income

  • Average Monthly Income: $100

You’re currently reading my blogging blog! Haha… This site is monetized very lightly, but it does earn enough to pay for my hosting and a few coffees here and there! Hosting referrals and display ads are the main ways this site makes money. I would love to throw Mediavine ads on this blog, but it just doesn’t have the traffic yet to do so. The blogging niche is very competitive so I don’t have high income hopes for this blog. After all, blogging experts are in this niche so obviously it’s super hard to compete!

Traffic for this blog went up in March 2020 right as the pandemic began. I have 150 posts currently.

Beauty Blog Income

  • Average Monthly Traffic: 1,800 pageviews
  • Average Monthly Income: $100

I launched a beauty blog! I know it sounds crazy to launch another blog before I’ve gotten more posts on the fashion blog I already have, but since Google doesn’t rank new sites anyway, I figured it would be best to launch the blog with the first pillar posts, and then let it sit until I have the time to work on it.

I’m taking it slow on this blog. I’m only adding long-form text, not even images. I have a lot on my plate but I hope to add images and start sharing the posts on Pinterest soon! In the meantime, I’m letting the domain age nicely.

Food Blog Income

  • Words: 0
  • Average Monthly Traffic: 0 pageviews
  • Average Monthly Income: $0
  • Domain: aged, premium, acquired for $17,000

I’ve bought the domain name for a food blog I plan to work on in the future. We’ll see how well things go with my existing blogs this year!

Finance Blog Income

  • Established: 2021
  • Words: 15,343
  • Average Monthly Traffic: 5 pageviews
  • Average Monthly Income: $0
  • Average Revenue Per Post: $0/month or $0/year

I soft-launched a personal finance blog for women. I’m far less sure that I can make money with this blog the way I am sure about the fashion and beauty niches. I just knew that I had to try as this niche can be very profitable. I am also quite interested in personal finance and investing, so I thought it might be a good blog to start. I know this blog will be an uphill battle though. We’ll see where it goes.

I bought the domain name and started a Pinterest account for this brand from the get-go. In three months, I published the first dozen articles, some of them outsourced. I have a content plan set up to publish one post per week on this blog.

This is a long-term play so I don’t expect much income at all from this blog. It’s on the backburner for now.

I can’t promise I’ll update this page every month, but I’ll try as often as I can! I will definitely see you guys in early 2023 for my next State of the Blog in any case, though.

In the meantime, please feel free to browse through my previous blog income reports!

  3. Hi there!
Thank you so much for this elaborate post and all of the other content on this blog!

Do you have an explanation for the huge difference in revenue for your home and travel blogs? I guess because the travel blog mainly consisted of personal updates rather than optimized content?

    • I take a commission for each piece of furniture someone buys through the home decor website in addition to the advertising money. There isn’t a commission to be made from travel blogs unless you write many articles about hotels and take a commission from each booking. That’s the main difference. Advertising is great, but the ability to earn commission from affiliate marketing is what can double the income.

  4. I have a question.
I am already paying through bluehost, webhost then connect contact. I have a URL and a title. I only want to blog. I would like to transfer under Google like you and the others under Pinterest. How would I do that?
    Thank you,
